Camp 2001 - Write-up

Held concurrently with
PLTC at Swiss Cottage, From 9 to 13 June 2001, the Secondary 1 and
2 scouts camped together in their respective 12 unit patrols. This
arrangement gave the secondary 1s scouts their first experience of
camping together in a group. They had to bathe, eat, sleep and work
on their campsite together, all trying to outdo each other and vie
to win the ‘Best Patrol’ award. For the Secondary 2s, it was an
experience for them to lead the secondary 1s in this camp. They had
to build gadgets for their campsite using gadget-wood and lashings,
challenging both their creativity and knotting skills. They also had
to pitch their own tents, learn new knots for their pioneering
project, build a 180-pounder and take part in initiative games.
Overall it was a tough experience but many hands-on lessons were
learnt that could never be experienced in the classroom.
