Scout Law

A Scout is to be Trusted.

A Scout is Loyal.

A Scout Makes Friends, Establishes, and

Maintains Harmonious Relations.

A Scout is Disciplined and Considerate.

A Scout has Courage in All Difficulties.

Explanation of the Scout Law:

  1. A SCOUT IS TO BE TRUSTED

  • Trust is related to honesty and integrity. To be trustworthy, a scout is expected to keep his word on promises made and carry out the duties assigned or expected of him as best as he can.

  • This will then cultivate a sense of trust when people work with him.

  1. A SCOUT IS LOYAL

  • As a scout, one is expected to be sincere and faithful to the unit. This can be seen through the participation, performance and the amount of work done and, effort put in by the scout.

  • Support of the activities of scouting, whether it is organised by the unit or by the Scout Organisation in the country, will show the loyalty and dedication on has. This is regardless of whether it is a fun activity or a strenuous one.

  • Every scout wishes to be in a good scout unit that has recognition, but this does not depend solely on the adult leaders but also on the level of dedication each member puts in.

  • A scout is not expected to do things that will discredit the unit or the Scout Movement.

  1. A SCOUT MAKES FRIENDS AND MAINTAINS HARMONIOUS RELATIONS

  • Friendliness brings peace and helps make things easier when working in groups.

  • Having friends need not mean that we have to agree with everything all the time. One would have to have mutual respect for the differences in views and character. Most importantly honesty and sincerity will determine the strength of the relationship.

  • A scout is expected to have initiative in being friends with others, regardless of how one treats you. One is expected to initiate a conversation and break the ice making others feel comfortable in your presence, and not leaving them on their own creating cold fronts.

  1. A SCOUT IS DISCIPLINED AND CONSIDERATE

  • A disciplined person is one who adheres to the rules by his own free will, able to tolerate difficulties, and control temper regardless of discomfort or hard work.

  • Consideration is to spare a thought for others, doing things with thought for others, considering the consequences of one's actions to oneself and others. There are no limits as to how consideration can be shown, and every gesture of consideration, regardless of how small it is, can go very far in showing one's character.

  1. A SCOUT HAS COURAGE IN ALL DIFFICULTIES

  • Courage does not mean rushing into things with full effort without considering the consequences.

  • A scout is expected to be courageous in takings risks only to help others and do good or to test the limits of one's abilities.

  • One is expected to be able to put one's ego and pride aside when we have done something wrong.
