A week just before the official
Stepping-Up Ceremony for Scouts in August 2001, Ventures' Night 2001
took place. Ventures' Night is a special annual affair, whereby past
and present ventures can get a chance to gather together to have
"reunion dinner".
Venture Hubert Ng was the
in-charge for Ventures' Night 2001, and planning for it had already
started way back in April. The venue for it was the Garden Seafood
Restaurant, located very near to Far East Plaza in Orchard.
We were glad to have Mr James
Tseng's (a.k.a. Pelandok) and Deputy Principal Brother Michael
Broughton's presence to grace the occasion. Our adult leaders, GSL
Alphonsus Gregory, VSL Malcolm Tan, SL Alvin Chua, AVSL Tan Boon
Leong, AVSL Desmond Yeap, and AVSL Ng June Ren were also around for
this special occasion. The other special guests to this event were
the dates that the ventures had brought along.
That evening, ventures were
dressed smartly in their suits and arrived together with their
impressive dates. Through the course of the evening, besides just
catching up with old friends and seniors, and filling up our empty
stomachs, there were some items being put up too. The Year 1 and
Year 2 Ventures had put up an item each. Both the Year 1s and Year
2s spoke of their past interesting and funny experiences as scouts
in an open sharing session, that triggered off bursts of laughter.
There was also the announcement
of incoming appointment holders for the new Venture Executive
Committee of 2001/2002. This marked the start of the new duties and
areas of responsibilities that had placed upon the new post holders.
The outgoing appointment holders were greatly appreciated and
thanked for the hard work they had put in to keep the spirit of
venturing in the St. Joseph’s Pelandok Scout Group alive and strong.
It was a significant and very
enjoyable evening. The whole event was a great success. Let us now
look forward in anticipation of Venture Night 2002!
