St. Joseph's Pelandok Scout Group Residential Project 2002 - Write-up
This
project was headed by the Ventures. The EXCO was formed in Feb 2002. It
comprised of Teo Xiang Zheng (EXCO Chairman), Koh Jin Sheng (Secretary),
Reuben
Hendricks (Logistics Manager), and Samuel Wei (Treasurer). Plans were made for a
newspapers and magazines collection in the Bishan-Toa Payoh Constituency. Formal
plans were made and the proposal sent to the authorities by March. A recce of
the targetted area was also made in the same month.
As it
was the first time we had to organise something of such a big scale, we were
slow in getting things done and met with many intimidating procedures and legal
processes. We had to contact the various authorities in the area, such as Miss
S. Giri, Senior Community Development Officer of the Bishan-Toa Payoh North
Constituency, Miss Angel Lim, Senior Manager of the Toa Payoh East Constituency
Secretariat, Miss Liviah, Senior Manager of the Toa Payoh Central Constituency
Secretariat. We identified the beneficiary for the event through the Community
Chest via Miss Jessica Ong, Executive of the Community Partnerships Division of
the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). The beneficiary identified was
the Asian Women's Welfare Association (AWWA). We obtained the House-to-house
Collection License from the General Licensing Unit (Police Cantonment Complex)
in the month of April.
On 27
April 2002, the activity was in full swing. Beginning from 9 am, we collected
newspapers and magazines, as well as other donated recyclable things, up till
4pm. We were worried that major hiccups or problems would arise, but thankfully
nothing of that sort happened. We collected a total sum of S$589.20 from
Altvater Jacob Pte. Ltd. and donated the full sum to AWWA through the Community
Chest.
The full
closure of the event was on 28 May 2002.
We would
like to thank all those who have helped us in one way or another.
